Introduction
Coerco delivered specialised engineered products to overcome the unique environmental and logistical challenges of the Kidston Hydro Project in Far North Queensland.
The Challenge
With only 300 days to complete water removal, the project required rapid design, delivery, and deployment of a high-performance floating pump system.
The pontoon needed to safely support and operate 60 tonnes of pumping equipment, demanding precise structural engineering and load management.
Transporting the system across difficult access roads and lowering it 180 metres as water levels dropped required a modular build and an advanced winching solution.
The Solution
A stable and durable floating platform was engineered to safely carry the weight of the pumps and be assembled easily on-site.
Coerco incorporated real-time client feedback on handling, cranage, and site-specific limitations to refine the final solution.
A custom winching arrangement with three strategically placed winches, including a 14-tonne winch and 40-tonne dynamo rope, enabled safe and controlled vertical movement as water levels changed.
